As time went along he became a committee member and remained so for about ten years.
In 1987 John became the honorary secretary of the branch and remained so for five years.
At this time he was honoured with the “award of merit” presented by the late colonel of the regiment, Major General “Waggy” Burns.
In 1996 at the AGM, he was elected chairman of the branch and remained in post until the AGM of 2001.
At this time He was deeply honoured by being asked to become a “vice president” of the branch, which he remains to this date.
